Salt Lines ’ (#two of three) is an abstract aerial photograph of a salt pond (Bird Lake) in Port Augusta, South Australia. Port Augusta is located on the Eyre Peninsula. Bird Lake is a part of the Augusta Lakes salt-lake system on the southeastern approach to Port Augusta. The pond had a beautiful pink hue, with unique patterns that the salt and water formed over time. The remains of a fence give context and remind us that this, in fact, is a photograph, and these patterns have formed naturally to create a beautiful abstract landscape.

A pink lake’s high salinity levels, combined with the presence of salt-loving algae and pink bacteria known as halobacteria, turn them bright pink. The less water in the lake, the more concentrated the salt and the brighter the colour.

The photograph is printed on 310gsm 100% cotton rag archival paper. Other printing options are available, including size, matts, frames, and canvas. Please message me for customised options and costings.
