‘Cross Roads‘ is an abstract photograph of one of the cross sections of salt ponds located in Lake Bumbunga, South Australia.
I particularly love the pop of pink colour from the salt water slowly evaporating and creating these vibrant colours, particularly striking against the brown and white. Apart from the beautiful colour of the salt water, I also love the textures of the salt where the water has completely evaporated; interestingly, the salt left behind was quite wet to touch but solid enough to walk upon.
Lake Bumbunga has been used by Cheetham Salt Company for salt harvesting for its works to the northeast of the town and its major employer. Lake Bumbunga is known for its beautiful pink and blue water and salt that is on display throughout the year.
